2015 W3 Varsity

The Women’s Third team, better known as the Swifts, train 2-3 times a week all year at Iffley Road Sports Centre, with an indoor session at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon through the winter. The Swifts have BUCS matches against other universities every Wednesday from the beginning of Michaelmas until the end of the British University season in February. With the introduction of the indoor session in Michaelmas and Hilary, as well as additional coaching in Trinity, the Swifts are stronger than ever.

The squad isn’t finalised until Trinity term, so players who show enough potential and commitment are able to move up to the Robins at any point in the year. This means that the strongest possible squads for each team will play the highly anticipated Varsity match, played alternately in Cambridge and Oxford each year. The Swifts won the 2016 title at home and are looking forwards to replicating the victory in Cambridge next year.

A highlight of the year was the men and women’s 2s/3s tour to Lisbon, where the squads trained on clay for a week in the Portuguese sun.
