Week 1 Match Report MT 2019

Updated: Nov 20, 2019

OULTC started off the BUCS league this year against some challenging opposition. They fought hard to achieve one win, one draw and sadly four tight losses.

The win came from M2 who played Nottingham Trent 2s away and decimated them with a clean sweep victory of 6-0. A special mention has to go out to Gaku who showcased this tennis prowess by winning 11 games in a row in his 6-3, 6-1 singles match and if this wasn’t impressive enough it he was in fact playing with someone else’s racket!

W2 managed to win their final doubles 11-9 in a tense 3rd set tie break to equalise the overall score in a 3-3 draw against Birmingham 2s.

On to the losses, W1 were defeated by Bath 8-4, despite a stellar effort from all the players, with a special mention going to Charlotte Feldhoff who after battling through to the 3rd set narrowly lost in the tiebreak. W3 sadly lost their away match against UEA 1s 5-1 but with some closely fought doubles matches and a marathon victory from Minnie Karanjavala who made a come back from 6-1 down in the first set to win her 3 set singles with a 11-9 championship tie break. M1 also suffered a close defeat against Loughborough 3s with an overall score of 4-2.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Unequivocally Xavier Gonzalez. The man, the icon. Amidst tough matches, he rose to prominence and, quoting Messier Cameron Bowie, quite literally 'gobbled up' the opponent 6-3 6-1. Few men have risen to such a significant task at such a dark hour.
