This year was yet another hard fought varsity with a result not representative of how close the match was as a whole. Cambridge deserved the win, but 17-4 does not do my team justice.
We had exceptional weather for all days that the competition ran over the weekend for which we are always grateful. A special mention must go to the moor park groundsman who significantly improved the grass courts from last year. They were a dream to play on in front of the house.
Special mentions must go to the match winners this year. Ross Martin came through a gruelling singles to beat the Cambridge no. 3 in straight sets. Edward Kandel won a singles against the Cambridge no. 6 in straight sets and also won two out of three of his doubles with his partner Oliver Nunn. Every match was hard fought and I couldn’t be prouder of my team for their perseverance.
The weekend was filled with strawberries and cream, Pimm’s, BBQ’s and was topped off with a three course meal in the moor park dining room which was, as ever, the perfect way to round off the weekend.
We look forward to inviting anyone interested in tennis to next years varsity where hopefully we can change the outcome!
