OULTC runs tennis leagues for college teams throughout Trinity term. Each team in the league will play each other team in the league - the winner being the team who finishes first on the ladder at the end of the season. If you have any questions about entering teams in leagues or whether your college has teams please email the university tennis co-ordinator at or your college captain who's details can be found on the college contacts page.
Tennis Leagues 2017 – Rules and Regulations
This year there will be 7 divisions.
Teams shall consist of 4 players, and may be mixed or single sex. The team can rotate from week to week, but not within a given week. Please try to complete the ties on time so that the competition can run as smoothly as possible.
The Format for Ties:
Each team must rank its players from 1-4 in terms of ability. Each player will play their opposite number on the other team at singles. The 4 players must also be grouped into a 1st and 2nd doubles pair, based on ability. This does not mean that the 1st and 2nd singles players must play together, simply that the stronger pairing of the 2 must play 1st pair while the weaker plays 2nd pair. The 1st pairs from each team will play each other, and the 2nd pairs shall play each other.
N.B. The singles and doubles line-ups must strictly be ordered in terms of ability, i.e. you cannot stack your team so that the best player plays 2nd or 3rd or your better doubles team plays as the 2nd pair.
The Scoring for Ties:
Each rubber will be two sets, each set up to 6, with a tie-break at 6-6.
The position of teams in the standings is determined by number of sets won overall. The number of wins is used as a tiebreaker.
Captains schedule matches at their mutual convenience. Teams must have played 1 match by the end of week 3, 2 by the end of week 4, etc. The divisions will normally be completed by the end of week 7.
Walkovers will be awarded if matches are not completed on time.
Your Responsibility as Captain:
As Captains, you must schedule the fixture with your opposition captain and organise for a team to play within the week specified at the top of the draw. Please fill out the match report, including the names of players and the result of each rubber, as soon as the match is completed here http://goo.gl/forms/IDzUttiuJ0.
All matches must be completed by the end of the specified week – if not, then a coin will be flipped to determine the winner. However, if one team appears to have been avoiding completing the tie on time, they will be disqualified. You will be informed as soon as possible about your next opponent so you can schedule your matches as early as possible.
